We had our first of fourteen Area parties at the home of Diana Hawkins Manuelian & Gino Manuelian on September 29th. About 45 people attended and enjoyed drinks and dinner in a festive setting. Police Chief Steve McCulley was the keynote speaker and discussed the importance of ADAPT in the event of a disaster. Included in Chief McCulley’s talk was Atherton Police Department’s efforts to stem burglaries and how residents can assist in that effort. Our primary goal in holding these parties is to create an atmosphere where neighbors can connect in a social setting, and maybe consider volunteer opportunities.
One of the best ways to cope with an emergency is to know your neighbors when the police and fire departments may not be able to respond. That is why we have initiated these gatherings and we will continue to have more of them in the future.
Annual Drill Review
About 32 people participated in the annual drill on Saturday, September 10th including Mayor DeGolia, Vice-Mayor Widmer, Council Member Hawkins-Manuelian and Police Chief McCulley who gave an introduction at the start of the activities. We had six stations to familiarize residents with disaster response equipment and to learn skills to deal with various scenarios.
Special thanks to Sgt. Jon Fong who organized the event and to Officers Massagli and Magami, and Brad Hoo and his four Boy Scouts who helped with the setup and participated in the activities
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED)
CPTED is a set of design principles used to discourage crime and promote building security. The concept is simple: buildings and properties can be designed to prevent damage from the force of the elements and natural disasters; they should also be designed to prevent crime.
The Atherton Police Department can conduct a CPTED review of your home. This review takes approximately one hour and is conducted by one of our Officers. To make a appointment for this service please contact Detective Gina Dutta @ gdutta@ci.atherton.ca.us
